Welcome to a Most Effective Marriage Prep Program!

For Better and For Ever is an innovative Christian marriage preparation and enhancement program that understands that even the best marriage preparation is not enough to adequately prepare couples for the reality of marriage beyond the wedding ceremony. The program was created by Redemptorists Father Rob Ruhnke, C.Ss.R., who has spent most of his professional life helping couples prepare for marriage. Fr. Ruhnke worked for many years as a “team priest” and regional leader for Marriage Encounter. He received his doctorate in 1986 from Southern Methodist University.

If you are seriously thinking about marriage or know a couple who is, now is the time to start using the For Better and For Ever workbooks to answer questions and dialogue with your partner about issues that you may not normally think to talk about.  For example, once you marry, how much money do you think either of you should be able to spend without first checking it out with your spouse?

For engaged couples For Better and For Ever can serve as a marriage preparation program (which more and more churches are making a requirement).  Even if your pastor is not already familiar with For Better and For Ever, he is likely to be impressed that you are wanting to use it because it is more comprehensive than most of the programs currently in use.

For Better and For Ever is specifically designed to help couples address questions that every couple needs to deal with before making a lifelong commitment to one another.  It gives couples the opportunity to put “all their cards” on the table so that they can begin marriage with “no secrets” and “no hidden agendas.”

The For Better and For Ever workbooks offer hundreds of questions and most couples say that many of them are questions they never talked about before reading the books.  For Better and For Ever helps couples prepare for Christian marriage, but it also takes into account those couples who may not be members of a Christian tradition.  There is a Catholic edition, a Protestant edition and a Covenant edition.  The Covenant edition is a “secular” edition for those who are not members of any Christian denomination or may not have a belief in a personal God, but are wanting to enter a marriage of lifelong commitment to one another.

In addition, many therapists and marriage counselors direct their married clients to use For Better and For Ever to identify important questions and issues that need to be dealt with. Once issues are identified, couples can then learn the necessary communication and relationship skills for success in resolving such issues.

For Better and For Ever offers resources and training materials both for couples and marriage educators. Redemptorist Fr. Robert Ruhnke, C.Ss.R, is the programs director. One of the unique features of the program is the emphasis on Sponsor Couples who act as mentors for new married couples following up with insights, encouragement and support. There is also a manual For Better and For Ever that covers important marriage issues such as: Study of Your Family of Origin, Money Matters & Career Planning, Planning the Wedding, Options for Mixed Religion Marriages, Parenting, Couples Who Are Living Together, Blended Families, Rituals of Engagement, Prayer, Marital Spirituality, and more.

If you are responsible for selecting a marriage preparation program for your church or organization, or if you are a young couple newly married or thinking seriously about marriage we encourage you to contact, Fr. Ruhnke at 210-534-1129 or through the For Better and For Ever website.
