Immaculate Conception

“Before she conceived she was already fit to be the Mother of God.”

-St. Thomas of Villanova

On December 8 you and I celebrate the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.  Today we honor Our Mother of Perpetual Help, the only human being chosen by God to survive the fall of Man. In her Immaculate Conception, Mary was kept free from the stain of original sin by the singular grace and privilege of Almighty God.

We honor Mary this day and give thanks in jubilation to God for this special grace given to her.  For she is the glory, she is the honor of our race, she is the glorious Virgin Mother of our Savior. Pray that, like her, you may be cleansed from all sinfulness in order that you might be a vessel of God’s compassion in our world.

The timing of this feast, coming within Advent, is most appropriate because it’s all about God’s grace renewing our lives.  Because of Mary, you can enjoy a relationship with God based on hope, not fear.  Despite the damage done by original sin, God always has the final Word; the Word made flesh which is Jesus our Savior.

As you prepare to welcome Jesus on Christmas morning, pause with me today to give thanks to Our Heavenly Father for the gift of Mary, Our Perpetual Help.  She was chosen by God, in a stable in Bethlehem, to deliver the Good News of our redemption from sin.

In Jesus through Mary,
